Many Lamar football players to sport new hairstyles
The latest trend among Lamar University football players involves a hair clipper and at least one ticked off parent.
No player has displayed this trend better than starting quarterback Andre Bevil, who took the field Saturday with a rather distinct hairstyle. Bevil had a newly shorn Mohawk over the middle of his scalp and his uniform number, No. 5, shaved into the sides of his head.
"I didn't have a chance to get a haircut before the game, so I'm like, 'I'm going to get a Mohawk before the first game,'" Bevil said. "A lot of guys said, 'I'm going to get one too.' So I said, 'How about everyone on the team gets one?'
"Some guys got it. Some guys didn't. We had a couple guys, their parents got mad."
No Lamar players appears to be sporting mullets or fades - each another popular, if not forgettable, 1980s-era hairstyle - but many promise to have haircuts worth noticing when they return to the field Saturday for a game against Webber International.
The game will be Lamar's first at home since 1989, the last season before this one that the school fielded a team. Kickoff is 6 p.m.
